Singapore Grand Prix
Race weekend features the race starting at 1pm BST on race day.
Live coverage provided on digital platforms and mobile app.
Practice Session Overview
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fastest in front of Scuderia star and Red Bull's Max Verstappen in first practice at the Singapore Grand Prix.
The British team's championship contenders Australian rookie and Lando Norris finished the session in P5 and P6.
Piastri was over two tenths speedier than his teammate.
The experienced Spaniard was a slim margin leading of the Ferrari driver and 0.276secs faster than Verstappen.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton was fourth fastest.
Car Performance
It is not expected that Aston Martin will be in the mix for P1.
However, the team are confident of a improved performance on a low-speed track that is better matched to their chassis, which runs more competitively when plenty of downforce are required.
Double world title winner Alonso is also known as a street circuit master, and often shines on the night race venue.
However he was likely operating with a lighter load or a more aggressive setting than his rivals, or both, to set such a quick time.
Team Updates
Partner Canadian racer was a significant margin slower in 18th place.
Stroll had difficulties with his driving position early in the session and was also evaluating experimental parts.
FP1 in Singapore is not representative of race pace later in the weekend as it is run in bright conditions in late afternoon, while qualifying and the race are staged under floodlights.
Points Situation
The McLaren driver leads Norris by 25 points with seven races to go as they approach the Grand Prix in Singapore.
The Woking-based team are set to clinch the team title on the weekend.
Sole scenario they can fail to secure it in this race is if the Silver Arrows beat them by over thirty or Ferrari achieve that by thirty-five.
Competitor Outlook
Red Bull are optimistic of a positive weekend after Verstappen's victories in Italy and Azerbaijan preceding this Grand Prix.
The team breathed a sigh when precipitation falling ahead of FP1 abated by the point the machines emerged on a surface that had stayed clear.
Motorsport adviser the Austrian said ahead of practice that they wanted a uninterrupted running to get underway on optimizing their chassis settings for the Grand Prix.
